Railway News: Anoop Kumar Agarwal Takes Additional Charge as Central Railway AGM
Mumbai, 5th October 2026: Anoop Kumar Agarwal took additional charge as Additional General Manager (AGM), Central Railway, on October 1, 2026, while continuing in his existing role as Principal Chief Electrical Engineer.
A Post Graduate in Power Electronics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Agarwal belongs to the 1988 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE). He has 38 years of experience in various positions across Indian Railways and other organisations.
Agarwal began his railway career as an Assistant Electrical Engineer with North Frontier Railway. He has held several key electrical engineering positions, including Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Traction Rolling Stock, at Kalwa, Kurla and Kalyan on Mumbai Division.
At Central Railway headquarters, he has served as Chief Electrical Engineer/Rolling Stock, Chief Electrical Loco Engineer and Chief Electrical Engineer/Operations. He has also held positions including Divisional Electrical Engineer (Construction) and Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Construction) in Lumding Division of North Frontier Railway, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (General) in Bhusaval Division of Central Railway and Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Construction) in North Frontier Railway.
Role in MUTP-II EMU procurement
During his deputation with the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) from November 2011 to July 2017, Agarwal was involved in the procurement of 72 EMU rakes under the World Bank-funded MUTP-II project.
He also played a role in electrical planning and operations during the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 while serving as Principal Chief Electrical Engineer at Prayagraj, North Central Railway. During the event, he was responsible for administrative and technical coordination of electrical planning and operations across North Central Railway.
Agarwal will now hold the additional responsibility of AGM, Central Railway, along with his existing responsibility as Principal Chief Electrical Engineer.
