Nalasopara: 10 Injured After Clash Disrupts Navratri Celebrations; Dispute Turns Violent

10 Injured After Clash Disrupts Navratri Celebrations

Nalasopara, 12th October 2026: Navratri celebrations at Achole Mitra Mandal in Nalasopara East were disrupted after a violent clash between two groups on Sunday night, 11th October, left around 10 people injured. The confrontation reportedly began with an argument involving a two-wheeler rider and a tempo driver over a narrow road before escalating into stone-pelting and attacks with sticks and bamboo rods.

The incident reportedly occurred while Navratri festivities were underway at the mandal. Members of the mandal alleged that a rider identified as Krishna got into an argument with a tempo driver and was assaulted by mandal members before being sent away.

The rider allegedly returned with a group of supporters, leading to a confrontation between the two sides. Stones were pelted, and sticks and bamboo rods were used during the clash. Mandal members also alleged that the group damaged the mandal’s idol.

Vishal Singh, an injured mandal member, claimed that Krishna returned with around 10 to 15 people carrying sticks and bamboo rods. A woman injured in the incident alleged that a larger group of around 50 to 60 people arrived at the spot and assaulted her.

However, the other side disputed this account. Shiv Yadav, who said he was Krishna’s friend, alleged that the mandal had not left enough space for people to pass through the narrow road. According to him, the initial argument arose because of the congestion, and mandal members assaulted Krishna. He claimed that his group went to question the members about the alleged assault.

Around 10 people sustained injuries in the clash and were taken to Tulinj Hospital, operated by the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, for treatment.

Tulinj police registered a case late on Sunday night in connection with the incident. The conflicting accounts from the two groups place the initial road dispute at the centre of the confrontation, which subsequently disrupted the ongoing Navratri celebrations.

The incident has raised concerns over public safety at crowded festival venues, where narrow access roads and disputes can quickly escalate into violence. Further details about arrests and the police investigation were not available in the reports published on Monday.
