Another 100 km of Metro Lines in MMR Within Two Years: Fadnavis

Mumbai, 10th May 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced that an additional 100 km of metro lines will be operational in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) over the next two years. The statement came during the inauguration of the BKC–Acharya Atre Chowk Phase II corridor of Mumbai Metro Line 3.
While the inauguration took place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, the route will be open to the general public starting Saturday, May 10. The new 9-km stretch adds to Mumbai’s existing 59 km metro network, bringing the total to 68 km.
The 33.5 km Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ Metro Line 3, executed by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), has faced multiple delays since construction began in 2017. Chief among them were issues related to the car shed and tunneling challenges under dense urban zones like Girgaum and beneath the Mithi River. Despite these, the MMRC managed to overcome the engineering challenges, which Fadnavis lauded as a remarkable feat of urban infrastructure development.
The 12.69 km stretch between Aarey and BKC became operational on October 1, 2024. Now, commuters can enjoy fast underground connectivity between Aarey, BKC, Acharya Atre Chowk, and Worli Naka.
Fadnavis also confirmed that Phase 2B, from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, will be opened to the public by August. He expressed optimism about rising ridership on Metro Line 3 once the full corridor becomes operational.
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted plans for an integrated ticketing system that will allow seamless travel across metro, monorail, BEST buses, and suburban rail using a single ticket.
