Borivali Shocked by Alleged Molestation Incident: Woman Jumps from Moving Auto-Rickshaw

Mumbai, 11th May 2024: A 29-year-old woman leapt out of a moving autorickshaw in Borivali after allegedly experiencing molestation by a fellow passenger in the shared vehicle. The incident occurred around 8:30 am on Wednesday. Borivali police, responding promptly, arrested both the molester and the rickshaw driver, registering a case of molestation.

The woman, employed in a private firm, frequently commutes to Borivali railway station using shared rickshaws. On Wednesday, she boarded a shared auto-rickshaw from the Poisar stand in Borivali, as usual, to reach her workplace, joined by two other passengers.

However, once the journey commenced, one of the passengers beside her began inappropriate touching. Despite her protests and requests to the driver to halt, the advances persisted, escalating to an attempted kiss. In a desperate move to evade further assault, she courageously jumped from the vehicle.

Fortunately, residents of Sai Baba Nagar witnessed the incident, rendering immediate assistance and alerting the police. Although sustaining injuries, she received prompt medical attention and was discharged from the hospital.

Following the victim’s statement, Borivali police invoked sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) of the IPC. An intensive search, aided by CCTV footage, led to the identification and apprehension of the auto-rickshaw driver, Sanjeev Ram (32), who callously continued driving without stopping to aid the victim.

Both the driver and the molester, Dhirajkumar Tiwari (40), were arrested, with investigations ongoing to determine if Tiwari has a history of such offenses. They are set to appear before the court on Thursday.
