Cockroaches, Clogged Drains: Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences of IRCTC Supplier, Three ISKCON Outlets in Mumbai
Mumbai, 9th September 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licence of an IRCTC-linked food supplier in Kurla West and three food establishments at ISKCON’s Hare Krishna Land in Juhu following inspections that revealed serious hygiene and food-safety violations.
The FDA inspected five establishments in Mumbai that supply food to railway passengers through IRCTC-affiliated base kitchens and food plazas.
During an inspection on 2nd September at R K Associates & Hoteliers Pvt Ltd in Kurla West, officials reportedly found cockroaches in food storage and processing areas. The inspection also found uncovered food and food preparation being carried out near open garbage.
Officials further observed clogged drains containing food waste, damaged floor tiles, cracks and damaged wall surfaces, raising concerns over sanitation and pest control at the premises.
After reviewing the inspection report and photographic evidence, the FDA suspended the restaurant’s food licence with immediate effect on 7th September.
The inspections also covered three food establishments operating at ISKCON’s Hare Krishna Land in Juhu. Officials flagged several hygiene-related deficiencies, including pest droppings, inadequate sanitation, uncovered food and shortcomings in staff hygiene.
The action comes amid increased scrutiny of food establishments supplying or serving prepared food in Mumbai. The FDA has emphasised the need for food businesses to maintain proper sanitation, pest-control measures, safe food-storage practices and hygienic conditions for food preparation.
The suspension of licences means the concerned establishments cannot legally continue food operations under the suspended licences until the regulatory issues are addressed and further action is taken by the authorities.
