Fire Breaks Out at Navbharat Industries in Navi Mumbai, Spreads to Adjacent Units

Navi Mumbai, 3rd April 2024: In Navi Mumbai, a massive fire broke out in the Khairane MIDC area on Tuesday morning, engulfing three companies without any reported casualties. The blaze originated at Navbharat Industries (Everfresh) in Sector 2, Kopar Khairane, near Thane Belapur road around 10:30 am, rapidly spreading to adjacent units.

The fire emitted thick plumes of smoke, shrouding the Kopar Khairane vicinity and visible from several kilometres away, reaching up to Digha. Despite the prompt response of over 30 fire tenders from various entities including Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Thane, Kalyan, MIDC, CIDCO, and ONGC, the flames persisted until evening, eventually being brought under control.

Ravindra Daundkar, the senior police inspector of Turbhe police station, stated, “The fire initially erupted at Navbharat Industries and subsequently spread to adjacent companies Goenka Foods and Jasmine Art Printers.”

Continuing, he remarked, “Thankfully, there were no fatalities, but the financial repercussions are significant. Firefighters displayed remarkable dedication, labouring tirelessly to contain and subsequently cool the affected zones. The root cause of the fire remains elusive, prompting an ongoing investigation.”

A fire officer elaborated, “Navbharat Industries housed significant quantities of highly flammable chemicals, intensifying the fire’s magnitude. Containment proved challenging, leading to its spread to neighbouring units.”

He further explained, “We deployed bronto skylifts for aerial firefighting, a risky operation, and cooling efforts are expected to continue for several hours.”
