Foreign Traveller Held with Cocaine Worth Rs 8 Crore at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai, 15th April 2025: Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have arrested a foreign national for smuggling cocaine worth ₹8 crore into India. The accused, who arrived from Uganda on April 9, was caught with 785 grams of cocaine concealed in capsules inside his stomach.

According to officials, the passenger was stopped for questioning after his behavior raised suspicion during routine checks. “The traveller appeared nervous and uncomfortable, which led to a detailed medical examination,” an official said. During the examination, several yellow-coloured capsules were discovered in his stomach. Upon further analysis, the capsules were found to contain a white powdery substance, confirmed to be cocaine.

The seizure has been made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the individual has been taken into custody. Officials stated that the cocaine, weighing 785 grams, has an estimated international market value of ₹8 crore.

Customs authorities suspect the involvement of an international Gang. A search is now underway to trace and apprehend other individuals linked to the smuggling operation.

Mumbai has become a growing hub for cocaine trafficking, with several recent arrests involving foreign nationals attempting to smuggle the drug using various concealment methods. Customs officials are intensifying efforts to dismantle such international smuggling networks.
