Ganeshotsav 2026: Maharashtra PWD Orders Traffic Measures On Mumbai-Goa Highway
Navi Mumbai, 3rd September 2026: The Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) has directed concerned agencies to coordinate and take measures to ensure smooth traffic movement on the Mumbai-Goa Highway during the 10-day Ganeshotsav period.
Public Works Minister Shivendraraje Bhosale issued the directions during a review meeting held at the Government Rest House in Mahad to assess highway works and preparations ahead of the festival.
Officials have been asked to ensure uninterrupted movement of light vehicles over the Nagothane flyover and monitor traffic and safety conditions throughout the festival. Daily reports on traffic management and safety at the flyover have also been sought.
Bhosale directed officials to complete the Mangaon and Indapur bypass works within the stipulated timelines while maintaining construction quality and ensuring that ongoing work causes minimum disruption to motorists.
With a large number of devotees expected to travel towards Konkan during Ganeshotsav, the PWD has also directed authorities to establish facility centres at identified locations along the highway.
These centres will provide drinking water, electricity, medical assistance and sanitation facilities, including mobile toilets.
Officials have also been asked to identify alternative routes that can be used in case of traffic congestion. Internal roads likely to be used for diversions will have to be repaired and kept in motorable condition before the festival.
Bhosale said all agencies should take preventive measures in advance to avoid inconvenience to devotees and other motorists travelling on the highway during the festival.
The meeting was attended by Raigad Guardian Minister Bharat Gogawale, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MLA Aniket Tatkare, Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale and Superintendent of Police Aanchal Dalal, among other officials.
Bhosale also directed officials to take up the issue of a possible toll waiver during Ganeshotsav with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
