Holiday Declared In Schools In Mumbai On Thursday Due To Continuous Heavy Rains

Mumbai, 19th July 2023: In light of the ongoing heavy rains in Mumbai, all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools (Nursery to Class 12) under all managements will remain closed on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
Acknowledging the effectiveness of pre-monsoon preparations in Mumbai, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Emergency Management Department at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Headquarters.

He expressed satisfaction with the prompt draining of water during heavy rainfall, indicating that the work of removing silt from the drains had been carried out effectively.

Appealing to citizens, Chief Minister Shinde urged them to venture out only if necessary and to seek shelter in safe places. He further directed the municipal administration to provide temporary shelter and refreshments for essential workers returning home.

In light of continuous rainfall, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal has taken measures to ensure the safety of students. As per his instructions, all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in Mumbai will remain closed on Thursday.

During his visit, Chief Minister Shinde reviewed various aspects of life in Mumbai, including traffic management and areas prone to water accumulation. He commended the fully functional Municipal Corporation system for successfully preventing waterlogging in low-lying areas like Hindmata, Parel, Gandhi Market, Milan Subway, and Andheri subway.

To mitigate waterlogging, the Chief Minister instructed the municipal administration to install nets under the covers of rainwater channels and sewage channels. Approximately 3,000 manholes in low-lying areas have already been covered with nets, and the process for remaining locations is underway.

Addressing the issue of potholes on roads, Chief Minister Shinde directed prompt action at the divisional level, ensuring immediate filling of potholes upon receiving citizen complaints. The use of modern technology to fill potholes and quickly restore traffic flow was also emphasized.

As heavy rains continue in various parts of the state, Chief Minister Shinde has directed all systems to be on high alert to prevent any accidents or untoward incidents.
