Mumbai: Absconding Prisoner Held By Mumbai Police After 3 Months Of Search; Remanded In Arthur Road Jail

Mumbai, 18th July 2023: Police have succeeded in nabbing a 28-year-old absconding prisoner who was sentenced to life imprisonment for strangulating a minor girl. The accused, Ajay alias Kallu Babu Chhetre, who had been absconding for the last three months, has been successfully apprehended by the RCF Police.

The accused, Ajay, alias Kallu Babu Chhetre, was arrested in 2014 in connection with the case of sexually assaulting and murdering a 16-year-old girl. After three years of trial, the court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment. Initially, he was kept in the Amravati Open Jail. Due to his good conduct in jail, he was released on parole in March of this year.

However, the accused did not return to the jail after completing the parole period. Based on this fact, a complaint was registered against Ajay, and police started an investigation.

According to the police, they were finding it difficult to trace the location of Ajay as he was using his mobile phone sparingly. During the investigation, police found out about the handwritten letters written by him, through which they learned that the accused had an affair with a woman named Amrik Sansoga.

Sansoga was living in Chembur. Promptly, the police raided Sansoga’s house in Chembur, where they found clothes of Ajay. Accordingly, the police laid a trap and held the accused successfully.

The accused, Kallu, was again remanded in custody and has been blacklisted by the jail authority. He is currently in the Arthur Road Jail, and the police are preparing a charge sheet in the case, which will be submitted to the court soon.
