Maharashtra ATS Destroys Narcotics Worth Over Rs 64 Crore Amidst Virtual Presence Of Union Home Mimister

Mumbai, 18th July 2023: In a significant crackdown against drug trafficking and to safeguard national security, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) executed the destruction of narcotics worth a staggering Rs. 64 crore and 36 lakh on Monday. The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, was present for the occasion through the video conference from Delhi, which was primarily focused on the pressing issue of drug trafficking and its implications for the nation.

Over the past three months in the year 2023, the Brihanmumbai Police Force has been relentless in their efforts to tackle the drug menace. They successfully destroyed a total of 4000 kg of contraband with an estimated value of a whopping Rs. 5000 crore.

During the conference, Amit Shah, in his capacity as Union Home Minister, reviewed the confiscated goods via video conferencing. A total of 161 kg of narcotics, seized in various operations by the State Anti-Terrorism Squad, were subjected to incineration in the closed furnace of the Mumbai Waste Management Company located in Taloja, Navi Mumbai.

The process was carried out under the watchful guidance of the Director General of the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Sadanand Date. Notable officials present during the destruction included the Special Inspector General of Police, Anil Kumbare, and the Chairperson of the Narcotics Destruction Committee, Superintendent of Police (Intelligence), Sheela Sail, along with other members of the committee.
