Mira Road Crane Collapse Kills One, Injures Three

Mira Road, Thane, 18th July 2026: A major construction site accident occurred at the JP North residential complex in Mira Road (East), Thane district, after a construction crane collapsed from the 13th floor of an under-construction high-rise building, killing one person and injuring three others.

According to police, the crane was being used for construction work when it suddenly gave way and crashed into the society premises below. The impact crushed several parked vehicles and triggered panic among residents.

The deceased has been identified as Mujammil Khokhar, a 20-year-old worker. Three others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Police, fire brigade personnel and rescue teams immediately reached the spot and launched rescue and relief operations. The area was cordoned off while emergency responders cleared the debris and ensured no one remained trapped beneath the collapsed crane.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Officials will examine whether there were any mechanical failures, structural defects or lapses in safety protocols at the construction site. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.

The incident has once again raised concerns over construction safety standards at high-rise projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with residents demanding strict action against those responsible if negligence is established.
