Mumbai: Audi Owner Arrested for Attempted Murder in Ghatkopar Road Rage Incident

Mumbai, 2nd September 2024: A Ghatkopar road rage incident that went viral has led to the arrest of an Audi owner, identified as journalist Rishabh Chakravorty, who allegedly assaulted a taxi driver in a shocking display of violence. The police have now charged Chakravorty with attempted murder following the release of the victim’s medical report.
The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, shows Chakravorty lifting the driver, Kayaumuddin Qureshi, and violently slamming him to the ground near the gate of his Ghatkopar housing society. The altercation reportedly began after Qureshi’s taxi allegedly made contact with Chakravorty’s Audi, which had earlier brushed against the taxi.
Initially, police had booked Chakravorty and his wife under bailable offenses and issued them a notice. However, after receiving Qureshi’s medical report, which confirmed he had sustained head injuries, the charges were escalated to attempted murder.
On Sunday, Chakravorty was presented in court, where he was remanded to police custody for seven days. The police are currently investigating the extent of his wife’s involvement in the incident. “We are examining the video footage to ascertain the wife’s role,” said Santosh Ghatekar, Senior Inspector of Parksite Police Station.
