Mumbai: BMC to Roll Out Red Carpet, VIP Seating for Chowpatty Ganesh Visarjan; Invites Bids for Event Management

Mumbai, 1st September 2026: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to introduce professional event management arrangements at Chowpatty for Ganeshotsav 2026, including red carpet facilities, VIP seating and organised logistics for the grand Ganesh idol immersion ceremony.

The civic body has invited bids to appoint a professional event management agency to oversee and streamline arrangements during the final day of the festival, when thousands of devotees and numerous Ganesh mandals arrive at Chowpatty for immersion.

According to BMC officials, the appointed agency will be responsible for managing the seating and viewing arrangements for dignitaries, public address systems, queues and the movement of incoming Ganesh idols. The agency will also coordinate crowd management and provide essential facilities such as drinking water.

Special arrangements will be made for the immersion of large idols. BMC workers are expected to install steel plates to facilitate the immersion of exceptionally tall Ganesh idols, while idols measuring over six feet may be transported by boats for immersion.

Officials said the arrival schedule of major Ganesh mandals will also be carefully coordinated, as the idols travel through long procession routes across Mumbai. Mandals typically inform authorities about their estimated arrival times, which can range from noon on Visarjan day until early morning the following day.

Apart from event management services, the BMC is also planning to deploy specialised divers and expert teams at immersion sites to ensure that rituals are conducted safely and without mishaps.

The move is aimed at improving crowd management, safety and overall coordination at Chowpatty, one of Mumbai’s most prominent Ganesh Visarjan destinations, during the conclusion of the Ganeshotsav celebrations.
