Mumbai: Committee to Address Rehabilitation Concerns for Worli Citizens, Industries Minister Announces

Mumbai, 20th July 2023: During a session at the Legislative Council, Industries Minister Uday Samant revealed plans to establish a committee of MLAs in Mumbai to address the rehabilitation needs of citizens affected by development works in Worli. Emphasizing the government’s stance, he reiterated the policy that redevelopment must be accompanied by appropriate rehabilitation measures.

The proposed committee will be tasked with ensuring that affected citizens are rehabilitated in the same locality. One of the concerns raised during the session was regarding the rehabilitation of non-resident landholders impacted by road widening in Worli.

In response to the issue, Minister Samant explained that road widening is essential on Mozes Marg, Ganpatrao Kadam Marg, and Keshavrao Khade Marg in the Worli area. However, he assured that every effort will be made to minimize the impact on residents. The redevelopment work will commence only after ensuring the successful rehabilitation of affected individuals. Currently, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is actively involved in the process of determining eligibility and diseligibility of the affected landholders.

To facilitate the rehabilitation process, Samant mentioned the requirement for a hundred feet road and stated that a committee of MLAs would be formed to handle the rehabilitation efforts. The committee will consist of local MLAs, with one representative selected per party. During the session, Samant playfully suggested that the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) group should nominate an MLA, evoking laughter in the hall. It is worth noting that the Thackeray group has three MLAs, including Aditya Thackeray, Sachin Ahir, and Sunil Shinde.
