Mumbai: Finnish Family Leaves ‘World’s Happiest Country’ to Begin New Life in Mumbai
Mumbai, 18th August 2026: A Finnish family has moved to Mumbai, leaving behind the safety, stability and comfortable lifestyle of Finland to give their children an opportunity to experience different cultures, people and ways of life.
The family, known on social media as The Findian Family, is documenting its new life in Mumbai through social media posts and videos. The family comprises Touko, a teacher and content creator, his wife Janika Tuunainen, a dance teacher, and their children.
The family moved to Mumbai in the last week of July 2026. Their arrival coincided with the city’s monsoon, giving them an unexpected and memorable introduction to their new home.
In a social media post after their arrival, the couple said they had finally reached Mumbai after a long journey and were ready to explore their new home. They also described their first monsoon experience as a “warm and very wet” welcome.
Why did they leave Finland?
Touko said that life in Finland had been “amazing”, offering a safe, stable and comfortable environment. However, he wanted his children to experience more than one way of life.
According to the family, the decision was driven by a desire to step outside their comfort zone and expose their children to different cultures, communities and everyday experiences.
Finland is frequently recognised for its high quality of life, safety and social stability and has topped the World Happiness Report rankings in recent years. The family’s decision to move from such an environment to the busy and culturally diverse city of Mumbai has therefore attracted considerable attention online.
Embracing Mumbai and the monsoon
Rather than being discouraged by Mumbai’s heavy monsoon, the family has been sharing videos of their experiences and exploring their new surroundings.
Their social media content shows family moments involving activities, dancing and spending time together as they adjust to life in the city.
The family ended one of its posts with the words, “The adventure begins now. Namaste, India.”
Social media users welcome the family
The family’s videos have generated considerable interest online, with several users welcoming them to India and Mumbai.
One user recalled spending two years in India with their own family and described the period as among the most exciting experiences of their lives. Others praised the family’s decision and encouraged them to enjoy their time in Mumbai.
One comment highlighted Mumbai’s energetic atmosphere, while another described Maharashtra and the monsoon as a memorable combination.
As the Finnish family begins its new chapter in Mumbai, its journey is drawing attention not only for the unusual decision to relocate from Finland but also for its willingness to embrace a completely different culture and way of life.
