Mumbai Gears Up for Political Showdown in Six Key Parliamentary Constituencies

Mumbai, 2nd May 2024: The political landscape is set for a showdown across six parliamentary constituencies in Mumbai as various parties gear up for the upcoming elections. Led by Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena will contest in three seats, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction will battle in the remaining three. Traditional rivals, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress will face off in two constituencies, while the Shiv Sena and BJP will vie for dominance in one.

The six constituencies, namely Mumbai South, Mumbai South-Central, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai North-East, and Mumbai North-West, are among the 13 seats in Maharashtra scheduled for the final phase of elections on May 20.

In Mumbai South, incumbent MP Arvind Sawant of the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction will compete against Yamini Jadhav from the Shinde-led Sena. Mumbai South-Central will witness a contest between Sena (UBT) leader Anil Desai and Rahul Shewale of the Shinde-led Sena, while Amol Kirtikar and Ravindra Waikar will battle it out in Mumbai North-West.

In Mumbai North, Congress MLA Varsha Gaikwad will face BJP’s Ujjwal Nikam, whereas Union Minister Piyush Goyal will contest against Bhushan Patil of the Congress in Mumbai North. Meanwhile, BJP’s Mihir Kotecha and Sena UBT’s Sanjay Dina Patil will lock horns in Mumbai North-East.

The political dynamics in Mumbai have witnessed shifts, with alliances forming and candidates switching parties. Despite historical rivalry, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress have exhibited cooperation, with Gaikwad garnering support from Uddhav Thackeray’s cadre.

The electoral battleground reflects the changing political landscape, marked by realignments and strategic moves. As the nomination process unfolds, Mumbai’s electorate prepares to exercise its democratic right, with over 24 lakh voters in the city and 74 lakh in the suburban district.
