Mumbai: Railway Administration Launches Drive Against Illegal Shanties, Removes Encroachments on Harbor Route

Mumbai, 3rd December 2023: In response to the persistent issue of unauthorized shanties encroaching on open spaces within railway boundaries, the railway administration has initiated a comprehensive campaign to address the problem. As a part of this effort, unauthorized constructions along the railway line between Wadala Railway Station and Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar Railway Station on the Harbor route have been dismantled.

The illegal shacks, which were erected near the down railway line between Wadala and GTB stations, posed significant challenges, including difficulties in crossing the railway track and the accumulation of garbage from the residents. To address these concerns, the Central Railway Administration took decisive action on Saturday, enlisting the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to remove the unauthorized huts.

On November 26, a parallel operation was conducted between Chunabhatti and GTB Nagar, resulting in the removal of 165 encroachments, including 140 small shops and 25 huts. Additionally, in a separate drive between Juinagar and Sanpada stations, 15 encroachments were razed.
