Mumbai: Raj Thackeray Delights Vada Pav Festival Attendees with Childhood Memories and Political Insights

Mumbai, 3rd December 2023: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray graced the Vadapav Festival in Goregaon, Mumbai, on December 2, where he shared fond childhood memories associated with the iconic street food. Addressing the audience, he highlighted the significance of Ashok Vaidya, the pioneer of the Vada Pav concept, suggesting that he deserves the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan Award.

Raj Thackeray recounted a remarkable story of two Marathi boys who approached him a decade ago, expressing their aspiration to sell Vada Pav in London. Reflecting on this, he emphasized the global popularity of Vada Pav, noting its acceptance even in places like London, where spicy food is not typically favoured.

Drawing parallels with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Thackeray shared an anecdote about Sachin’s mentor, Achrekarsar, who motivated him during practice sessions by offering a Vada Pav reward. The MNS President also mentioned a businessman hosting football finals in a ballroom, featuring Vada Pav and champagne on the menu, showcasing the diverse and widespread appeal of the humble street food.

Transitioning to political commentary, Thackeray wittily remarked on the current political scenario in Maharashtra, humorously likening it to the interplay of Vada Pav fillings. Without delving deep into the subject, he hinted at the intricate relationships between key political figures, drawing parallels to the Vada Pav combinations.

In a separate meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Thackeray discussed Marathi Boards’ issues, underscoring the multifaceted engagements of the MNS President in both cultural and political realms. The Vadapav Festival provided a platform for Thackeray to connect with the public, reminiscing while offering insightful perspectives on contemporary political dynamics.
