Mumbai: Samay Raina Summoned Again by Maharashtra Cyber Cell Over YouTube Show Controversy

Mumbai, 13th February 2025: Stand-up comedian Samay Raina has once again been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell concerning the ongoing controversy linked to his YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
Authorities confirmed that Raina has sought additional time to respond, as he is expected to return from the U.S. in the third week of March.
The State Cyber Cell has also sent notices to nearly 40 individuals involved in producing the show’s 18 episodes. In addition, YouTube has been asked to take down all episodes from its platform.
A Cyber Cell official stated that YouTube had already removed the contentious episode within two days of its release.
“Even though the episodes are no longer visible, we are in discussions with YouTube to ensure complete removal. Meanwhile, it appears that Samay Raina personally took down an episode he had uploaded recently,” the official added.
Notices have been issued to all content creators, event organizers, and attendees associated with the show.
“As of now, no arrests have been made. Further action will be determined after reviewing statements and analyzing the content,” the officer said.
Following a written complaint, Khar police have recorded statements from at least 10 individuals, as the episodes were filmed at a studio in Khar in November 2024.
Raina Speaks Out
Addressing the controversy for the first time, Raina took to Instagram on Wednesday to respond to the backlash. He announced that he had removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his channel and assured full cooperation with the authorities.
“This entire situation has been overwhelming for me. I have taken down all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My sole intention was to entertain and bring joy. I will fully cooperate with all relevant agencies to ensure a fair inquiry. Thank you,” Raina wrote.
The controversy arose after a remark made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in a recent episode sparked public outrage. A formal complaint was later filed against Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, Raina, and the show’s organizers.
Allahbadia had previously issued a public apology, acknowledging that his comments were “inappropriate” and that he had “exercised poor judgment.”
The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
