Mumbai Security Breach: Man Held, Claims Fake PMO ID Was to Impress Family
Mumbai, 10th September 2026: A 24-year-old man was arrested after allegedly using a fake Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) identity card to gain access to Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend an event nearby.
The accused, identified as Rohan Parekh, allegedly presented the identity card to security personnel while accompanied by his private security guard, Dilip Kunde, 49. Kunde, a former Army personnel, was carrying a licensed firearm at the time.
According to the police, Parekh claimed to have created or used the fake PMO identity card to impress his family. Police said his family owns a stock broking firm and that he worked as an executive at the company.
The incident came to light on Monday when Parekh and Kunde allegedly entered Jio World Plaza. The security personnel stopped Kunde after noticing the firearm, following which the duo was questioned by the police. A third person, identified as Prathamesh Bagul, who allegedly accompanied them, is being searched for by the police.
Police said Parekh claimed that he had been offered a role connected to the PMO by a person who introduced himself as a central government official. Investigators said they have not found emails or WhatsApp communication supporting his claim so far.
Parekh’s lawyers, however, told the court that he believed he had genuinely been offered a position connected to the PMO and had received an offer letter and identity card. Police are investigating these claims.
Investigators are also examining whether artificial intelligence was used to create the fake identity card. Police have said there is currently no evidence linking Parekh or the incident to Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled programme.
The incident occurred a day before Modi was scheduled to attend the 7th Global Fintech Fest at the Jio World Centre in BKC, prompting heightened security arrangements in the area.
