Navi Mumbai, 11th September 2024: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has secured approval from the National Medical Commission to establish the ‘Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science.’ Dr. Kailas Shinde, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, stated that this development will enable the Municipal Corporation to enhance the quality of health services provided to citizens and strengthen its healthcare capabilities.
Following the acquisition of necessary state government approvals, Thane Lok Sabha member Naresh Mhaske played a pivotal role in this process. He consistently engaged with the Union Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav and the Union Health Department through correspondence and personal meetings.
The approval includes the launch of four departments in the first phase: ‘Medicine’ (3 seats), ‘Orthopaedics’ (2 seats), ‘Gynaecology’ (8 seats), and ‘Pediatrics’ (4 seats). The ‘Surgery’ department is expected to receive approval soon.
Infrastructural facilities have been set up at the Vashi and Nerul Public Hospitals to support the new institute. The necessary staff, including the dean, professors, and assistant professors, have been appointed. The institute is anticipated to commence in the upcoming academic year. This postgraduate medical college will offer advanced training to MBBS doctors, who will then contribute to patient care at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Hospital.
The initiative aims to introduce specialized services such as medical intensive care, pediatric intensive care, and emergency and trauma care within the municipal hospital. This development is expected to enhance the Municipal Corporation’s health services and improve the quality of healthcare available to Navi Mumbai’s residents.
