Navi Mumbai Police Take Action: Three Individuals Face Charges for Video Allegedly Inciting Discord

Navi Mumbai, 9th May 2024: The Navi Mumbai police have initiated legal proceedings against three individuals accused of inciting discord between different societal groups through a video concerning former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare, as per an official announcement on Thursday.

The complainant, Suresh Rama Gaikwad (49) from Turbhe in Navi Mumbai, notified the authorities that the accused produced and disseminated the video titled ‘Salute to Hemant Karkare (Based on true Event)’, which he viewed on April 22 via YouTube.

According to the complaint filed on Wednesday, the accused purported the video to be factual, although it allegedly contained misinformation. The video purportedly depicted Brahmins engaging in terrorist activities and falsely implicating Muslims in criminal cases, as stated by an official from the Turbhe police station.

In response to the complaint, the police registered an FIR on Wednesday against the three named individuals and any other members associated with them.

The charges specified in the FIR include sections 153-A (incitement of enmity between different groups), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts aimed at outraging religious sentiments), 298 (intentional utterance of words to offend religious sentiments), and 34 (jointly committed acts with a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Hemant Karkare tragically lost his life during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
