Pune: Escaped Leopard Still In Katraj Zoo, PMC Releases Video; Zoo Closed For Visitors

Katraj, 5th March 2024: The search for a leopard that escaped from its enclosure at Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Katraj, Pune yesterday morning, is still going on. The leopard’s disappearance has prompted a coordinated effort by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Forest Department officials, Fire Authorities, and Rescue Teams to locate the elusive feline.

Today, PMC released a CCTV footage showing the leopard roaming around in the zoo premises.

The incident took place at the orphanage of the Katraj Zoological Park, raising concerns for the safety of both visitors and staff.

Pune Range Forest Officer Suresh Warak stated, “Leopard is reported to have escaped from the Zoological Park in Katraj. But we don’t monitor those animals, and they are looked after by the management of the park. Yesterday we got information about the leopard escape there. The people there say that the leopard is still in the park. We have sent one of our teams and are cooperating with the zoological park administration by providing them with nets and cages.”
