Pune: Successful Operation by Pune Police Leads to Arrest of Seasoned Thief in Phoenix Mall Theft Case

Viman Nagar, 6th March 2024: In a swift and effective operation, the Pune Police cracked the case of a theft at Mr DIY Shop, Phoenix Mall, Viman Nagar, Pune, which occurred on January 1, 2024. The complainant, who had been shopping at the store, reported the theft of her mother-in-law’s purse containing gold ornaments, estimated at Rs 3,55,000/-. A case under IPC 380 (Theft in a building, tent or vessel) was registered at the Pune Airport Police Station.

Senior Police Inspector Anandrao Khobare led the investigation, instructing the officers and Detection Branch (DB) personnel promptly. Following a lead obtained by Avinash Shewale and Nana Karche, officers learned that the alleged thief, Deepak Papale, resides in the Yerawada area and has a history of such offences.

Acting on the information, the team, led by Officer in Charge of DB Vijay Chandan, apprehended Deepak Devidas Papale, 35, from the open space adjacent to Airport Road at Sanjay Park. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, leading to the recovery of the stolen gold ornaments.

Assistant Police Inspector Vijay Chandan is currently overseeing the continuing investigation into the registered crime at the Airport Police Station, Pune City.

The successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police, East Regional Division Pune, Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 3 Sambhaji Kadam, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yerwada Division Pune, Sanjay Patil, and Senior Police Inspector of Airport Police Station Ananda Rao Khobare. The team executing the operation included Assistant Police Inspector Vijay Chandan, Police Sub Inspector Avinash Shewale, Police Constable Rakesh Chandekar, Shailesh Naik, Rupesh Pisal, Nana Karche, Ankush Jogdande, Girish Nanekar, Yogesh Thopte, Dadasaheb Barde, Ganesh Ithape, and Gyandev Awari.
