Thane: Srinagar Police Open Case After Rs 6.5 Lakh Jewelry Theft from Shiv Sena Office-Bearers
Thane, 31st October 2024: On Wednesday, the Srinagar police initiated a case against an unidentified individual suspected of stealing jewellery and cash valued at ₹6.5 lakh from five Shiv Sena (Shinde) office-bearers.
The theft occurred during a procession held on Monday to celebrate Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s nomination in Kopri-Pachpakhadi. On the same day, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Kedar Dighe also filed his nomination against Shinde.
The incident unfolded at Wagale Estate near Datt Temple in Thane, where a large crowd gathered to support Shinde’s candidacy. Among those present during the nomination were Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, MP Shrikant Shinde from Kalyan, and MP Naresh Mhaske from Thane. The police have registered the case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with investigations currently ongoing.
The stolen items included gold chains weighing 12 and six tolas, mobile phones, cash, and identification documents. Laxman Shinde, 60, filed the complaint on behalf of the victims, who included five senior office-bearers, such as a former corporator and shakha pramukh.
Senior Inspector Guljarilal Phadtare from the Srinagar police station stated, “The complainant and four others approached us to report the incident. We have registered a case against an unknown suspect and have reviewed the CCTV footage from the area. We are optimistic about apprehending the accused soon, and further inquiries are in progress.”
