27-Year-Old Lawyer Apprehended for Extorting Hotelier in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, 30th May 2024: In a noteworthy development in Navi Mumbai, a 27-year-old female lawyer has been apprehended for allegedly extorting ₹12 lakh from a hotelier. The arrest was carried out by the Navi Mumbai crime unit on Wednesday at a cafe in Vashi, where the illicit transaction occurred, as confirmed by an official from the Vashi police station.

The lawyer, hailing from the Nerul area, purportedly coerced the 43-year-old hotel proprietor by threatening to persist with a complaint she had lodged against his establishment with the local civic body unless he acceded to her monetary demands. Fearing repercussions, the hotelier acquiesced and paid the stipulated amount.

During the arrest, authorities seized her Aadhaar card, Bar Council ID, and visiting cards. She has been charged under section 383 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code.
