69 School Transport Vehicles Penalised in Joint Traffic Police-RTO Drive in Pimpri Chinchwad
Pimpri, 22nd July 2026: A joint enforcement drive by the Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) resulted in action against 69 school transport vehicles for violating safety norms, with authorities recovering ₹3.76 lakh in penalties.
The special drive was launched following complaints that several school transport vehicles were carrying students beyond their permitted capacity, violating safety regulations and putting children’s safety at risk.
Inspections were conducted on June 29, June 30, July 2, and July 20 across the Pimpri, Wakad, Sangvi, Mahalunge, Chikhali, Talawade, and Hinjawadi traffic divisions.
During the operation, officials inspected 181 school transport vehicles, of which 69 were found violating various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and school transport safety norms. The violators were collectively fined ₹3,76,900.
Traffic Police officials said the joint enforcement drive was aimed at ensuring the safety of schoolchildren by preventing overcrowding and other unsafe practices in school transport vehicles. They added that similar drives will continue in the coming months and urged vehicle owners and drivers to strictly comply with all prescribed safety regulations.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Shashikant Mahavarkar, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sarang Awad. It was supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vikrant Deshmukh and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic-II) Satyajit Adamane, along with officers and personnel of the Traffic Branch.
