7-Year-Old Girl Raped by Watchman in Mumbai; Accused Beaten by Crowd, Arrested

Mumbai, 13th July 2026: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across the city, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a watchman at a warehouse in Mumbai’s Pydhonie area on Sunday. The accused was caught and thrashed by an angry mob before being handed over to the police.

The Incident

According to police officials, the minor girl had left her home to use a nearby washroom, a route that took her past the warehouse where the accused was employed. The watchman, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly found the girl alone and took her to the upper floor of the building, where he sexually assaulted her.

When the girl did not return home, her mother began searching for her. Around the same time, two women noticed something suspicious near the warehouse. Upon entering, they found the girl in a distressed state, prompting them to raise an alarm.

Public Outrage

Once news of the incident spread, local residents gathered at the spot, caught hold of the accused watchman, and beat him severely before handing him over to the police. Angry crowds later assembled outside the Pydhonie police station, with some demanding the death penalty for the accused.

Victim’s Condition

The girl was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. Doctors attending to her have confirmed that she is responding well to treatment and her condition is gradually improving.

Police Action

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vijaykant Sagar stated that the police were alerted about the incident on Sunday afternoon and acted swiftly to take the accused into custody.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the special POCSO court at the Sessions Court.

“The case is being examined from every angle, and all necessary evidence is being collected. The strictest possible action will be taken,” DCP Sagar assured.
