Navi Mumbai Welcomes New NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, Prioritizing Cleanliness and Education

Navi Mumbai, 22nd March 2024: Dr. Kailas Shinde, an IAS officer from the 2013 batch, assumed office as the new commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Thursday, outlining his vision to prioritize cleanliness, education, and healthcare to elevate the city’s standards. Dr Shinde, previously serving as the joint managing director of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), succeeded Rajesh Narvekar, who was transferred following the directive of the election commissioner due to the Lok Sabha elections, assuming the position of Commissioner, Cooperatives and Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Pune.
In his inaugural meeting with department heads, Dr Shinde emphasized the importance of understanding each department’s operations and called for a detailed plan for ward-wise reviews and field inspections. Regarding his plans for Navi Mumbai, Dr Shinde expressed his commitment to addressing citizen expectations and local issues to ensure efficient administration.

Drawing from his extensive experience, including roles at the chief minister’s secretariat and various district administrations, Dr Shinde affirmed his familiarity with local challenges and pledged to address them diligently.
Dr. Shinde’s illustrious career spans significant contributions to public service, including his tenure as CEO of Satara Zilla Parishad, where he received accolades for promoting cleanliness and welfare initiatives. Noteworthy accomplishments during his tenure as district collector of Palghar district include disaster relief efforts during the COVID pandemic and cyclones, recognized by both state and central governments.
As former Joint Managing Director of CIDCO, Dr Shinde played a key role in spearheading mega projects and advocating for streamlined processes to enhance resident experiences.
