Navi Mumbai Police Detain 21 Transgender Individuals in Public Disturbance Operation

Navi Mumbai, 1st August 2024: On Thursday, police in Navi Mumbai detained 21 transgender individuals for allegedly causing disturbances in public areas. This operation was conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of the Navi Mumbai police.
The arrests followed complaints from residents about inappropriate behaviour and disruptions caused by transgender individuals in various parts of Navi Mumbai. In response, the AHTC organized three teams to address the issue. On July 30, these teams conducted coordinated operations in areas such as Uran Phata, Juinagar, and the APMC truck terminal.
Of the 21 detained, twelve were apprehended in Juinagar, six at the APMC truck terminal, and three in Uran Phata. An FIR has been filed under Section 296 (which pertains to obscene acts or songs) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the CBD, Nerul, and APMC police stations.
