Mumbai Metro Line 3 Sees Rise in Ridership as BKC–Acharya Atre Phase Draws Over 2 Lakh Commuters

Mumbai, 20th May 2025: The second phase (2A) of Mumbai’s Metro Line 3, connecting BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk, has recorded a strong start with over 2.04 lakh passengers using the service in just nine days since its launch on May 10. According to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), an average of 20,000 commuters are travelling daily on this newly opened stretch.

The Phase 2A line, part of the 33.5 km Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ–Aarey corridor, is receiving a better response than the earlier Aarey–BKC phase, which was opened to traffic in October 2024 but initially saw lower-than-expected ridership.

The new line also includes the Siddhivinayak Temple Metro Station, which has become a key draw for commuters. The station is located just a two-minute walk from the popular religious site, resulting in high footfall from areas like Santacruz, BKC, Aarey, and Dharavi. The MMRC attributes a significant portion of the increased ridership to passengers heading to Siddhivinayak Temple.

Since the inauguration of Phase 2A, the total number of passengers on the Aarey to Acharya Atre Chowk stretch has climbed to 47.14 lakh as of May 18, with recent ridership trends indicating growing public interest in the line.

Looking ahead, the MMRC plans to open Phase 2B—from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade—by August 2025. Officials expect this extension to further boost ridership on Metro Line 3, positioning it as a critical link in Mumbai’s expanding public transport network.

The MMRC continues to monitor commuter patterns closely and remains optimistic about rising passenger numbers as more phases become operational.
