Mumbai: PM Modi to Inaugurate 12 Redeveloped Central Railway Stations Under Amrit Bharat Scheme; Over Rs 138 Crore Invested

Mumbai, 19th May 2025: In a significant development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate 103 redeveloped railway stations across Indian Railways on 22 May 2025. Of these, 12 key stations fall under the jurisdiction of Central Railway, which has successfully completed the redevelopment work in just 15 months. The total cost for the upgrade of these stations is over Rs. 138 crore.

Launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to modernize over 1300 railway stations nationwide into future-ready, integrated transport hubs. The foundation stones for these projects were laid in two phases—on 6 August 2023 and 26 February 2024.

In Maharashtra alone, 132 stations are being redeveloped, with 15 included in the current inauguration phase.

Details of Redeveloped Central Railway Stations:

Chinchpokli Station – Mumbai Division
Project Cost: Rs. 11.81 crore
Daily Footfall: 36,696
Upgrades include platform flooring, renovation of elevated booking offices, installation of drinking water booths, new seating arrangements, vertical gardens, and modification of staircases at the foot over bridge (FOB). Beautification works such as 3D paintings and spider glazing have also been completed.

Parel Station – Mumbai Division
Project Cost: Rs. 19.41 crore
Daily Footfall: 47,738
Developments encompass a new station building with a booking office, elevated parking, a new toilet block with sewage treatment plant, PCC roads, landscaping, drainage systems, and boundary walls with vertical gardens.

Vadala Road Station – Mumbai Division
Project Cost: Rs. 23.02 crore
Daily Footfall: 1,32,680
Renovations include platform flooring, new COP (cover over platform), structural and aesthetic improvements to the FOB, new toilets with STP, booking office upgrades, and false ceiling and cladding works.

Matunga Station – Mumbai Division
Project Cost: Rs. 17.28 crore
Daily Footfall: 37,927
Upgrades feature raised platforms, Divyangjan-compliant flooring, new toilet blocks, vertical gardens, restoration of the main building’s wooden arch, and renovation of booking offices and entrance gates. Matunga continues to hold the distinction of being India’s first all-women operated station.

These redevelopments aim to improve passenger comfort, safety, accessibility, and station aesthetics, supporting the transformation of Indian railway stations into world-class facilities.
