Mumbai: Cab Driver Booked After Man Dragged on Bonnet for Kilometres in Vile Parle

Mumbai, 28th May 2025: In a disturbing incident that unfolded early Wednesday morning in Mumbai’s Vile Parle area, a cab driver allegedly dragged a man on the bonnet of his car for several kilometres along the Western Express Highway, sparking outrage and prompting swift legal action.

The confrontation reportedly began outside the domestic terminal of the Mumbai airport, where an argument broke out between the driver, identified as Bhimprasad Mahanto, and the victim. The situation escalated when Mahanto allegedly punched the man and attempted to flee. In a desperate move to prevent the driver from escaping, the man leapt onto the vehicle’s bonnet and clung on as the cab accelerated down the highway.

The harrowing episode was caught on camera by a passerby, who promptly informed the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The RTO relayed the footage and incident details to the local police, leading to quick intervention. The video, which has since gone viral, shows the man gripping the car tightly while communicating with another person riding parallel on a two-wheeler, who was also filming the incident.

Based on the evidence, authorities registered a case against Mahanto under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicle involved has been seized, and the Mumbai Airport Police have issued a formal notice to the cab driver as part of the ongoing investigation.
