Mumbai: Auto-Rickshaw Driver Critically Injured After Escort Vehicle in Akshay Kumar Convoy Crashes in Juhu

Juhu, 20th January 2026: A late-night road accident involving a pilot car escorting Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s convoy left an auto-rickshaw driver critically injured in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Monday, prompting a police investigation and triggering widespread reactions on social media.

The collision took place between 8 pm and 9 pm near the ISKCON Temple on Gandhigram Road. According to police officials, a Mercedes escort vehicle linked to the convoy allegedly rammed into an auto-rickshaw at high speed near Silver Beach Café. The impact caused the three-wheeler to spin and crash into an Innova vehicle that was also part of the convoy, leaving the auto badly damaged.

The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Basit Khan, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical. A passenger travelling in the auto was also injured, though further details about their medical condition are awaited. No fatalities have been reported so far.

Mumbai Police clarified that Akshay Kumar was not travelling in the pilot car involved in the crash. The actor and his wife, author and former actor Twinkle Khanna, were in a separate vehicle following the escort car. Their vehicle suffered only minor damage, and both were confirmed to be safe and unharmed.

The incident drew immediate attention from passersby, with several videos of the damaged auto-rickshaw and the convoy vehicles quickly going viral on social media. The visuals sparked concern among fans, many of whom later expressed relief after police confirmed the safety of the actor and his wife.

Juhu Police reached the spot shortly after the accident and seized the Mercedes car involved for technical examination. Officials said preliminary findings indicate possible overspeeding or negligence, though CCTV footage is being reviewed and witness statements recorded to determine the exact cause of the crash and fix responsibility.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by Akshay Kumar or his team. Police said further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
