Palghar Hit by 3.1-Magnitude Earthquake Amid Heavy Rain; No Major Damage Reported
Palghar, 25th July 2026: Palghar district was jolted by a 3.1-magnitude earthquake on Saturday morning, triggering panic among residents in the Kasa–Dhundalwadi region as the district continues to grapple with heavy rain and flood-like conditions.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 10:57 a.m. IST at a depth of 9 km. Tremors were felt in Kasa and Dhundalwadi, prompting some residents to step out of their homes as a precaution.
No casualties or major property damage have been reported so far. However, the tremor has added to concerns among residents already dealing with disruptions caused by days of incessant rainfall and waterlogging.
The Kasa–Dhundalwadi belt, located in parts of Dahanu and Talasari talukas, is considered seismically active and has experienced frequent low-intensity earthquakes over the past several years.
Officials have urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours and follow safety advisories.
Palghar has recorded more than 2,500 low- to moderate-intensity earthquakes since 2018, according to reports. While most of these tremors have not resulted in major loss of life, repeated seismic activity has damaged some rural homes and kept residents on alert.
