Mumbai: Virar Bharuch MEMU Derails Near Bhilad, Mumbai-Ahmedabad Rail Traffic Hit; No Injuries Reported
Palgar, 28th July 2026: Rail services on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor were disrupted on Monday morning after the front driving motor coach (DMC) of the 19101 Virar–Bharuch MEMU train derailed while entering Bhilad railway station in Gujarat’s Valsad district. No passengers or railway staff were injured in the incident.
According to Western Railway, the incident occurred at around 6:27 a.m. when the train was entering Platform No. 1 at Bhilad station. Four wheels of the front DMC coach slipped off the tracks. The loco pilot immediately halted the train, preventing a major accident.
Senior Western Railway officials and technical teams rushed to the site and launched restoration work. The derailed coach is being re-railed, while an inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The derailment affected train movement on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad route, leading to delays for several long-distance trains bound for Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. Railway authorities are working to restore normal operations at the earliest, while suburban services up to Dahanu have remained largely unaffected.
Passengers travelling on the affected route have been advised to check the latest train status before commencing their journey, as delays may continue until the track is fully cleared and certified safe for operations.
