Mumbai Local Services Hit After Two Incidents Near Thane Station; Commuters Face Delays

Mumbai, 20th August 2026: Suburban train services on the Central Railway were disrupted during Thursday morning’s peak hours after two separate incidents occurred within minutes of each other near Thane railway station.

The first incident took place at around 8:37 am on the Down fast line, where a person was found on the railway tracks. The motorman of an approaching local train noticed the person and immediately stopped the train before informing the control room. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel subsequently reached the spot and removed the person from the tracks.

According to Thane Government Railway Police, the person had allegedly died by suicide after reportedly being distressed by illness. Train movement on the Down fast line was affected between approximately 8:37 am and 8:45 am, with some services being held for several minutes.

Passenger injured on Up fast line

Within minutes, at around 8:45 am, another incident occurred on the Up fast line near Thane station, where a passenger fell under a local train and sustained injuries.

Railway authorities immediately launched rescue efforts and shifted the injured passenger to a hospital for treatment. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated by the railway police.

Crowd builds up at major stations

The two incidents affected the movement of fast local trains during the morning rush. Several services were delayed, leading to increased crowds at Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan stations.

Railway authorities took some time to restore the disrupted timetable, with delays also affecting subsequent local services.

The incidents caused inconvenience to thousands of commuters travelling towards Mumbai during the morning peak period.
