Navi Mumbai: Municipal Corporation Collects Property Tax Of Over Rs 600 Crore, Surpasses Target

Navi Mumbai, 31st March 2023: Property tax collection, which is a major source of revenue for the Municipal Corporation, was given special attention under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar. In line with this, the Additional Commissioner of the Property Tax Department, Sujata Dhole, has achieved a record target of Rs 615 crore and has exceeded the set target.

For the first time in the history of the municipality, a record collection of property tax of more than Rs 600 crore has been achieved. Since this fund is being spent for the completion of civic facilities on behalf of the municipal corporation, Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar has thanked the citizens of Navi Mumbai for their cooperation.

As the last day of this financial year is 31st March, on Friday, despite Ram Navami being a public holiday, all the offices of the Municipal Corporation were open to make it convenient for the citizens to pay their taxes. Considering that the citizens had to face financial difficulties during the Corona period, Abhay Yojana, which once again gives a 75 per cent discount on the penalty amount of outstanding property tax, was announced from February 15 to March 15. After that, a 50 per cent discount was given from March 16 to March 31. It was seen that citizens have benefited from Abhay Yojana to a large extent. A total of 12068 individuals, and organizations have collected an amount of 109.37 crores by taking advantage of Abhay Yojana.

The appeal letters of Abhay Yojana were given to the concerned through the Municipal Corporation. Citizens were also appealed to through social media, newspapers, distribution of pamphlets and hoardings displayed at various places. By effectively using media to reach the citizens, the enthusiastic response the citizens received.

Additional Commissioner Sujata Dhole, as per the Commissioner’s guidance, has planned recovery targets for department-wise appointed officers and employees and kept a close eye on their work by consistently reviewing their performance. She gave special emphasis on removing the difficulties encountered in the recovery work on a priority basis. Paying attention to the objections and suggestions of the citizens regarding the property tax, she mainly paid attention to solving the problems of the citizens by holding hearings from time to time and this would lead to maximum recovery. The result of this is the highest property tax collection so far. In this financial year, besides appealing to citizens to pay property tax, knowing their problems and solving them, notices of seven days and then 48 hours were issued to the property tax arrears as per the rules.

Among them, more than 100 defaulters paid their arrears immediately. With this company, the pending assessment of property tax-free properties mainly in the MIDC area and the residential sector was completed and important work was done to bring them under the tax net by applying property tax. Special attention was paid to the recovery of property tax holders. Tax collection was done in a planned manner by preparing a list in descending order of such amounts. In addition to appealing, a somewhat strict stance was also taken by playing the drums in front of his house and office.

Due to continuous follow-up and planned collection under the guidance of the Commissioner, the property tax collection has crossed 615 crores for the first time.
