Neglected Pedestrian Bridges And Railway Stations In Navi Mumbai Cause Hardships For Commuters

Navi Mumbai, 6th July 2023: In Navi Mumbai, railway stations have become hotspots for various problems due to mismanagement of railway tracks and a lack of attention from authorities. Passengers travelling through Airoli and Rabale railway stations are particularly affected, as both sides of the stations have been neglected, leading to various difficulties.
A pedestrian bridge that has been constructed by the municipality to cross the Thane-Belapur highway from Airoli and Rabale railway stations also lacks the attention of municipality officials. The arrival of the rainy season has further compounded the problems, as water accumulation in the station areas has become a common occurrence.
To circumvent the station areas, passengers have resorted to using an alternate pedestrian bridge located outside the railway station. Unfortunately, the conditions of the stations are deteriorating, making commuting via this bridge extremely challenging. The glass on the pedestrian bridge is broken, and passengers have to travel in the dark at night. Also, disabled, young, and old people are suffering due to the closure of existing routes.
As a result of these dire circumstances, passengers are demanding urgent repairs to the pedestrian bridges from the municipality. The situation is particularly critical for the Airoli Naka Pedestrian Bridge, which connects Sector One to the Chinchpada area in Airoli Division. The bridge is currently in a dilapidated condition, posing a significant risk to commuters. Furthermore, the cleanliness survey conducted by the municipal corporation is being questioned due to the accumulation of waste materials on this pedestrian bridge.
Outside the railway station, piles of waste have begun to emit a foul odor, particularly exacerbated by the continuous rain. This unpleasant environment becomes a major inconvenience for office workers, especially during peak rush hours. The negligence of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation in addressing these issues has angered many residents.
The pressing concerns surrounding the deteriorating pedestrian bridges and unsanitary conditions outside the railway station have sparked widespread calls for immediate action. Commuters and residents alike are urging the municipality to address these problems promptly and restore safe and convenient passage for all.
