Navi Mumbai: Rickshaw Driver Killed In Tragic Accident On Taloja MIDC Road

Taloja, 9th September 2023: In a devastating incident on Wednesday night at 6 p.m., a reckless speeding truck collided head-on with a rickshaw on Taloja MIDC Road, resulting in the tragic death of the rickshaw driver and causing injuries to another individual. The truck driver responsible for the accident fled the scene after the accident, prompting a police investigation and a search for the culprit.

The deceased rickshaw driver has been identified as 36-year-old Umesh Aatmaram Patil, a resident of Walap village in Panvel taluka. The incident unfolded on September 6 when, at 3 p.m., Umesh visited the home of a relative named Raju Patil in Dharana village, Taloja. Later in the evening, around 9:30 p.m., both Umesh and Raju were travelling by rickshaw on Valap-Vavanje road, with their journey taking them past the S. S. Patil contractor’s office on MIDC road.

It was at this juncture that a speeding truck, heading from Navde Phata to Bel naka, collided forcefully with the rickshaw, causing it to overturn on the road. Both Umesh Patil and Raju Patil were stranded inside the overturned rickshaw, sustaining injuries as a result of the impact. Thankfully, nearby citizens rushed to their aid, helping to straighten the rickshaw and provide immediate assistance.

However, the accident had taken a severe toll on Umesh Patil, who suffered a critical head injury. Promptly responding to the accident call, the local police arrived at the scene and swiftly arranged for the injured victims to be transported to the hospital for medical attention. Tragically, Umesh Patil succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

In the aftermath of the accident, the truck driver made a hasty escape from the scene. The Taloja police have taken strict action, registering a case against the absconding truck driver and launching an intensive search operation to locate and apprehend the truck driver.
