Mumbai: Licence Violation Accused Struck Traffic Police Officer With Helmet In Sion

Sion, 26th September 2023: On a Sunday in the Sion area, a two-wheeler driver allegedly struck the policemen with a helmet and tried to escape from the spot. The incident happened in the Sion locality when traffic police apprehended a motorcyclist for driving a bike without a valid licence. Following a complaint from the traffic police in this case, the Sion police registered a complaint and subsequently detained the alleged motorbike rider.

According to the information, the plaintiff traffic police officer, Anand Shejwal (42), is working at the Matunga Traffic Branch. On Sunday, he was posted at a Matunga signal near the checkpoint when he saw a young man named Tausif Abdul Majid Khan (27), coming on a two-wheeler. Having suspicion that he was driving without a licence, he asked the young man to stop and show the valid documents.

As the young man did not possess it, Shejwal took punitive action against him, penalising him with a monetary fine. Enraged by this, the accused bike rider slammed his helmet on Shejwal’s head and started running away.

However, alerted nearby traffic police chased and apprehended him. Following the incident, the accused was immediately taken to the Sion police station, and a complaint was registered against him under sections 353 (obstructing government work) and 332 (assaulting a government employee) of the IPC.
