Mumbai: Municipal Corporation Cracks Down On Flower Vendors With Strict Measures

Dadar, 12th October 2023: On Thursday morning, the divisional office of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation was dead set on illegal flower-selling street vendors in Dadar. Civic officials blockaded the road in the flower market in Dadar and charged a hefty fine on illegal vendors. The encroachment removal department and solid waste department jointly took this action today at 9 a.m.

In the upcoming months, there are various festivals in queue, such as Dashehra and Diwali. At these festivals, there are huge demands for flowers in Mumbai and adjacent areas. Keeping this in mind, a large number of people illegally set up a small stall or sold flowers on the road, encroaching on the entire road. As a result, many people complained about the congestion of the road during festivities.

Many pedestrians complained that they don’t even get enough space to walk due to the blocking of the road by the street vendors. Furthermore, a lot of vendors fail to remove the leftover flowers from the street, which presents additional challenges for local authorities. In the last week, the G-North department issued instructions to the traders in the flower market regarding the disposal of waste. However, it was found that the sellers sitting outside the market did not heed these instructions.

Therefore, the Solid Waste Department took this action on Thursday morning with the help of the Encroachment Removal Department. According to officials, the action was taken against at least 15 to 20 sellers, and around 100 kg of goods were seized.
