Tragic Incidents of Student Suicides Highlight Academic Stress in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, 12th December 2023: Two distressing incidents of student suicides have brought to light the concerning issue of academic stress in Navi Mumbai. On the same day, two students took their lives, shedding light on the mental pressure faced by students in their pursuit of academic success.

In the first incident, a 15-year-old boy named Darshil Patil, studying in class 10, committed suicide by jumping into a lake in Karave village, Navi Mumbai. Darshil, reportedly grappling with the loss of his father a year ago, sent a heartbreaking message to his sister before taking this extreme step. The message revealed his struggles with meeting the family’s expectations. The boy’s body was later discovered in the lake by the fire brigade after a search was initiated.

The second incident involved a Class 9 student, Prithvi Dhavale, from Nerul Sector 16. Prithvi took his own life by hanging herself with a sheet in her house while her parents were at work. A note left behind by Prithvi cited the inability to cope with studies as the reason for her drastic step.

Amidst these tragic events, a case has been filed against a teacher named Shakeela Ansari in Ghansoli for allegedly beating a student named Sana with a bamboo stick. The beating reportedly occurred after Sana couldn’t solve a math problem given as homework. The parents discovered visible injuries on Sana’s body and promptly filed a complaint with the KoparKhairane Police Station. A case has been registered against the teacher for the assault.
