Mumbai Police Takes Swift Action Against X User in Dance Video Controversy
Mumbai, 19th February 2024: The Mumbai Police has taken action in response to a woman’s complaint against an X user who made an inappropriate comment on her dance video. The incident began when Prateek Aaryan posted a video featuring Shruti Parija’s dance performance at a college fest, accompanied by a controversial caption. The caption criticized cultural events in Indian schools and colleges, referring to them as ‘kotha’ (brothel) activities.
Shruti Parija, expressing her displeasure, commented on Prateek’s post, asserting that she did not consent to the video being reposted. This sparked a wave of support for Shruti on the internet, with numerous individuals condemning the X user for sharing her video without permission.
Despite the public backlash and Shruti’s repeated requests for the video’s removal, Prateek refused, insisting that his comment was not directed at her. Shruti clarified that she was a judge at the fest and was requested to perform on the track by the students and audience. She urged Prateek to address any concerns with the college.
As Shruti’s efforts to have the video taken down proved futile, she reached out to the Mumbai Police, alleging defamation and damage to her reputation. The Mumbai Police promptly responded to the matter.
In an update, Shruti announced that with technical assistance, the media in Prateek Aaryan’s post had been disabled due to a copyright claim. However, the video remained accessible in some areas, and legal actions were being considered.
Shruti Parija, a professional choreographer with over 22,000 followers on Instagram, continues to navigate the aftermath of this incident.
