A Couple From Mumbai Who Married Twice And Divorced Twice

Mumbai, 22nd February 2022: The Bombay High Court on Friday granted divorce to a Parsi couple for the second time on mutual consent as they had married each other twice.

According to the information received, in the year 2004, both were married in September and married according to the Parsi customs in December. In the year 2018, both of them were living separately after mutual estrangement.

The Parsi couple tied the knot in September 2004 and got it registered under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act 1954 a secular act. On 21st December 2004 at the insistence of family members and relatives, they got married according to Parsi customs and rituals and this time got the marriage registered under the Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act 1936.

After a few years of marriage, there were fights between the two on some issues and from March 2018, both of them started living separately. Several attempts were made by the family members and relatives to persuade the duo but to no avail. Last year, both the couple had filed a joint petition in the Thane family court for mutual consent divorce to get their marriage registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Their request was accepted by the court.

On 6 January 2022, the Thane Family Court accepted their petition and dissolved their marriage. After this the couple moved the High Court for a second divorce by mutual consent. A single bench of Justice Girish Kulkarni on Friday allowed their joint plea observing that the dispute had arisen under two different Acts.
