After Corona, Black Fungus, A New Disease In Which Melts The Bones Emerges, 3 New Patients Admitted In Mumbai
5th July 2021: After Mucormycosis i.e. Black Fungus, now new cases of Avascular Necrosis i.e. bone death are being seen in patients cured of Corona. In this disease, the bones of people’s bodies start melting. Three cases of Avascular Necrosis have been reported in the country’s financial capital Mumbai. All three patients admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai are below 40 years of age.
Two months after recovering from the corona, they started developing symptoms of Avascular Necrosis i.e. bone death. Both Mucormycosis and Avascular Necrosis have been associated with steroid use.
Dr. Sanjay Aggarwal, Medical Director, Hinduja Hospital said, “These patients felt pain in the femur bone. These three patients were doctors, due to which it was easy for them to recognize the symptoms and they immediately reached the hospital for treatment.”
Dr. Sanjay Aggarwal said that a 36-year-old patient complained of Avascular Necrosis, 67 days after recovering from Corona, while two other patients showed symptoms after 57 and 55 days. He told that all the patients were given steroids during the treatment of Corona.
Dr. Agarwal’s research paper on Avascular Necrosis ‘Avascular Necrosis a part of long COVID-19’ was published in the prestigious medical journal ‘BMJ Case Studies’ on Saturday. In this, he said that there will be an increase in AVN cases due to ‘large-scale use of life-saving Corticosteroids’ in Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, out of 264 Mucormycosis patients at the Government Hospital in Coimbatore, 30 patients lost sight in one eye. A top official of the hospital gave this information on Sunday. Dr. N Nirmala, Dean of the hospital, said that all those admitted were subjected to endoscopy and 110 patients underwent surgery. But 30 patients with severe infections had lost sight in one eye, she said, that all those who came in the early stages, made a full recovery from the disease.
