Arrests Made After Disturbing Assault on Dog at Thane Pet Clinic Sparks Outrage

Thane, 16th February 2024: Two individuals have been arrested following the circulation of a distressing video showing the physical assault of a dog at the Vetic Pet Clinic in R Mall, Thane. The incident, which prompted a police complaint filed on Tuesday, involved a pet clinic staffer repeatedly punching a Chow Chow breed dog while another man captured the act on film.

The video, which went viral on social media, depicts the helpless dog being punched in its face and back. Despite the assault, the resilient animal is seen getting off the stretcher and walking out of the room, even after being kicked by one of the assailants.

Public condemnation of the incident led to swift action, with Nilesh Bhange from the animal rights organization PAWS, among others, filing a non-cognizable complaint. Several Bollywood actors and animal welfare organizations joined the chorus of voices expressing their concern and demanding justice.

Street Dogs of Bombay, advocating for animal rights, posted a video confirming the dog’s identity as Tofu, a three-year-old canine. The organization reported that Tofu is in stable condition and expressed gratitude for the prompt response from the public and the police.

The dog’s owner is expected to pursue legal action against the accused individuals. Street Dogs of Bombay emphasized the need for comprehensive legal proceedings, including considerations under the IT Act, and urged the inclusion of IPC 511 for attempted animal cruelty in the FIR.
