Auto Rides in Pune Could Get Costlier as RTA Weighs Fare Revision

Pune, 22nd July 2026: Auto-rickshaw commuters in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad may soon have to pay more, with the minimum fare likely to be increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30. The proposed fare revision is expected to be discussed at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting scheduled for July 23, where a final decision is likely.

The proposed hike comes in the wake of a sustained rise in CNG prices. Auto-rickshaw unions have long been demanding a fare revision, arguing that increasing fuel costs have made it difficult for drivers to operate profitably.

According to the proposal, the minimum fare for the first 1.5 km may be increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30, while the per-kilometre charge thereafter is likely to be revised from Rs 17 to Rs 20. The proposal is based on the recommendations of the Khatua Committee, constituted to review auto-rickshaw fares.

However, the final decision rests with the RTA, which is expected to take up the issue at Thursday’s meeting. Along with the fare revision, discussions are also likely to be held on the implementation of the district’s new auto-rickshaw policy.

Rahul Jadhav, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pimpri Chinchwad, said the RTA meeting has been convened on July 23 to discuss the fare revision and the proposed district auto-rickshaw policy, after which a final decision will be taken.
