Bhubaneswar, 20th June 2022: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Vijay Shankar Das, who did not attend his own wedding, said that he is ready to marry his fiancee in the next 60 days. The MLA’s fiance had filed a case of cheating against him for not reaching for the wedding. The woman had also claimed that the MLA’s family members were refusing her to marry him and had also threatened and pressured her not to marry him.

Das has been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 195A (threatening person to give false evidence) and 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The couple had applied for the registration of their marriage on May 17, 2022. The woman had reached the marriage registration office along with her relatives, but the Das did not reach there.

Das said, “Yes, I am ready to marry her in the next 60 days. One month has passed since the application for registration of marriage. I still have 60 days. It’s time for me.”

He added, “My mother is ill and during this time I will do whatever I can. I have never denied marriage. In fact, I have announced it in front of media and public. So the question of cheating does not make sense.”

The woman claimed that Das and she were in a relationship for the last three years and the MLA claimed to marry her. Sources close to the MLA’s family say that Das, was in a relationship with the woman for some time.
